Year of Plenary Indulgence granted by the Church on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the beatification of Blessed Anne-Marie Javouhey
A brief overview of Anne-Marie Javouhey's life.
- November 10, 1779: Anne-Marie was born in Burgundy. During the French Revolution, she helped the priests who refused to swear an oath of allegiance to the state; the teenager taught and catechised the children of her village, Chamblanc.
- November 11, 1798: she consecrated herself to God during a clandestine mass. She continued her work of education and evangelisation.
- May 12, 1807: religious consecration and birth of the institute that would take the name of St Joseph of Cluny, the place where the community settled in 1812. She discovered the suffering of those wounded in war and in life, the sick and the abandoned. She established several foundations in France.
- 1817: call to go «overseas»; departure of a group of sisters for the Island of Reunion , followed by Africa, India and Oceania.
- 1828: Anne-Marie went to French Guiana where, thanks to her gifts as an educator and organiser, she prepared slaves to become free people.
- 1849: move to Faubourg Saint Jacques in Paris
- 1851, 15 July, death of Anne-Marie.
1950, 15 October Anne-Marie Javouhey was declared «Blessed» by Pope Pius XII.
