The mission of the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny in India began in Pondicherry in the twenty years following the foundation of the Congregation. Then a French territory, the sisters arrived in 1827. The South Eastern Province of India, with its headquarters in Pondicherry (now called Puducherry), is proud to be the Mother Province of all the other six provinces of India.

Driven by the inspiring example of Anne-Marie Javouhey, the Province is committed to proclaiming the Good News, liberating, empowering and promoting the dignity of every human person.
In a spirit of compassion and hope, it extends its missionary and educational work to the regions of Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karaikal, Mahé and the Andaman Islands.
By sharing love and hope with our world, the province continues to sow the seeds of peace, justice and fraternity where they are most needed.
